PLAINFIELD
NEIGHBORHOOD HEALTH SERVICES CORPORATION SUPPORTS NATIONAL WEAR RED DAY
Plainfield, NJ, February 17, 2006--On Friday, February 3, 2006, Plainfield
Health Center and Elizabeth Port Community Health Center gave support
for a nationwide movement that supports the effort of women in their fight
against heart disease. National Wear Red Day brings a focus on the prevalence
of heart disease among women and that it has become the leading cause
of death among women today. While many women may still be unaware that
heart disease is such a potential risk, this initiative is designed to
educate all women about the facts, risks and ways to lead a potentially
healthy life style. Shades of red were visible through out the center
as employees joined together to show support for the on-going efforts
to educate and improve women’s heart health.
Medical Director, Susan Walsh
expressed satisfaction that the employees took the time to participate
in
this program. “As healthcare providers, the entire staff of Plainfield
Health Center and ElizabethPort Community Health Center supports the drive
to increase awareness among the public of the risks associated with under
reporting of cardiac symptoms by women and their families,” stated
Dr. Walsh. She continued by saying, “heart disease does not respect
gender and together we can all work to educate our community so that men
and women can live long and healthy lives.”
“For the past couple
of years, PNHSC has participated in this national heart awareness campaign
for
women. The entire organization including the PNHSC Board of Directors,
Senior Officers and staff
participates by wearing red which is the symbol for this recognized imitative,”
said Rudine Smith,
President and CEO of Plainfield Neighborhood Health Services Corporation.
She continued by saying, “We participate to encourage women to learn
about the risks factors for cardiovascular disease and explain how they
can reduce those factors and increase their quality of life, as she posed
for photos with her staff.
Siddeeq El-Amin, Chairman for
the Board of Directors of the Health Center, visited the center while
staff was posing for pictures and stated, “The Board of Directors
