Plainfield Health Center Honors Heroes of September 11th
Flag and Flagpole Dedication Gift of the Marotta Family Foundation

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, September 11, 2002-PLAINFIELD, NEW JERSEY- The Plainfield Health Center, one of fourteen Federally Qualified Health Centers in New Jersey, dedicated to providing cost effective primary health care services for the residents of Plainfield and surrounding communities, today celebrated the lives of the heroes of September 11, 2001 with a flag and flagpole dedication in their honor. This was made possible through a gift from the Marotta Family Foundation.

The ceremony conducted at the main health center campus at the corner of Rock and Myrtle, in Plainfield, was one of prayer and recognition of those lost, as well as the heroic efforts of many more, whether in New York, Washington, or Pennsylvania. Girl Scout Troup #1043 of Somerville, New Jersey conducted the flag ceremony. The scout participants included: Joy-Divine Morrison, Kaylie Torres, Krista Torres, Corina Torres, Jade McQueen, Jaliyah Daniels, Dorian Jackson, Asia Jackson, Destiny Jackson, Amber Crews, Daniela Tapia, Alina Urena, Ashley Jones, Nathifa Davis, and Shaniquewah Davis.

"The Plainfield Health Center family, like all other American families, has been deeply affected by the events one year ago today," said Julane Miller-Armbrister, President and Chief Executive Officer. "A few of our employees lost family members in the tragedy and we mourn their losses. We are so grateful to the Marotta Family Foundation for this wonderful, meaningful gift, and are deeply appreciative of those who have chosen to honor our nation's heroes with us today. In particular, I would like to thank the Girl Scouts of Troup #1043 for conducting today's flag ceremony."

About The Plainfield Health Center

The Plainfield Health Center, incorporated as the Plainfield Neighborhood Health Services Corporation, was born in 1969 under the auspices of the 1960's Model Cities Neighborhood Program. Led by a dedicated group of community activists, the Center was initially created to provide accessible health care to the residents of the West End of Plainfield.

Since then, the Center has grown, added more services, increased the number of specialties of professional health staff, and expanded its reach to the entire City of Plainfield and neighboring communities. Today, the Plainfield Health Center serves more than 17,000 patients annually. Its total care program provides adult medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, adolescent medicine, school based services, dentistry and ancillary support services.
