Plainfield Health Center CEO Honored by The LINKS, Inc.
International Organization Recognizes Julane Miller-Armbrister's Contribution to Health Care

For Immediate Release: Thursday, May 9, 2002-PLAINFIELD, NEW JERSEY- The Plainfield Health Center, one of thirteen Federally Qualified Health Centers in New Jersey, dedicated to providing cost effective primary health care services for the residents of Plainfield and surrounding communities, announced the recognition of Julane Miller-Armbrister, President and CEO, as the LINKS, Raritan Valley Chapter, honoree of the year. Mrs. Miller-Armbrister was recognized along with fellow honoree, Reverand M. LaVerne Lattimore Ball.

The LINKS, Inc. is an international service organization founded in 1946. It is a women's non-partisan, national volunteer community service organization. The organization defines itself as a "group of friends committed to civic, educational and cultural activities, with the singular purpose of serving community needs for the improvement of life and the pursuit of excellence." The Raritan Valley Chapter fulfills its commitment to the organization's purpose by developing and implementing projects in each of The LINKS, Inc.'s program facets: Service to Youth, National Trends, International Trends and The Arts.

Mrs. Miller-Armbrister is a recognized leader in health care. As the President and CEO of the Plainfield Health Center, she has been an advocate for primary care for the uninsured and underinsured. She has served as the chairperson of the New Jersey State Department of Health and Senior Services-Office of Minority and Multicultural Health Advisory Commission, and as chairperson of the New Jersey Primary Care Association. In both offices, she has worked tirelessly to eliminate primary health care access barriers for all.

"I am delighted to share this honor with Reverand Ball," said Miller-Armbrister. "We do what we do to make a difference for the members of our community. In my case, I am determined to continue to advocate for Plainfield, Union County, New Jersey and all citizens for the right, and access to, primary health care, regardless of ethnicity or economic status."

About The Plainfield Health Center

The Plainfield Health Center, incorporated as the Plainfield Neighborhood Health Services Corporation, was born in 1969 under the auspices of the 1960's Model Cities Neighborhood Program. Led by a dedicated group of community activists, the Center was initially created to provide accessible health care to the residents of the West End of Plainfield.

Since then, the Center has grown, added more services, increased the number of specialties of professional health staff, and expanded its reach to the entire City of Plainfield and neighboring communities. Today, the Plainfield Health Center serves more than 17,000 patients annually. Its total care program provides adult medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, adolescent medicine, school based services, dentistry and ancillary support services.
